A play about loss, grief, and a dead body in a bathtub.
Inspired by a true story, Decay tells the story of one man coming to terms with the death of his wife, along with the painful necessity of keeping her body in his apartment until the funeral. Bleak, moving and uncomfortably funny, Decay asks how we can preserve ourselves, when the one we love is decaying before us.
Devised with the cast and written by Melissa Lee Speyer, Rachel Chant directed the world premiere of Decay at the Old 505 Theatre in May 2015.
“Direction by Rachel Chant gives the production a tautness in pace and atmosphere, and her commitment to an unconventional and sometimes surreal theatrical form is refreshing and quite courageous.” Suzy Wrong – SuzyGoesSee
“Chant is on quite a roll at the moment and this production is no exception, she has created a fantastic world of such gruesome intensity it is hard to watch at times, but impossible to look away.” Joy Minter – The Buzz From Sydney
