“I’m gonna have myself a real good time…”
Set within the cold, tiled walls of a bathroom, Machine is an intimate black comedy about Christine, her Guardian Angel, and his plan to make it all okay. But things don’t always go according to plan. As Christine’s descent into death unravels, her Angel attempts to solve one of life’s toughest questions – how do you convince someone to live? Machine invites audiences to question the role of free will in determining their futures, and asks what is more satisfying: self-determination or an external solution?
Intimate and aesthetic-driven, Machine was co-devised by director Rachel Chant, writer Melissa Lee Speyer and actors Lucy Heffernan and David Jackson. The project was presented in April 2014 as part of the Old 505’s inaugural FreshWorks program, a series of development showings of new experimental works.
